plants that thrive in low light
I'm setting up a low-tech tank with minimal lighting. What are the best plants that can thrive in low light conditions without CO2? I've heard Anubias and Java Fern are good, but I'd like more options.

Anubias and Java Fern are solid picks, no doubt. But you gotta check out Cryptocoryne Wendtii. That thing's a beast in low light. Just plant it and forget it, pretty much. Also, Moss balls are chill if you want something super easy.

What about substrate? Do these plants need special soil or can they grow in gravel? I'm new to this and don't wanna mess it up.

Hey, I've had great luck with Amazon Swords in my low-light tank. They're not as demanding as people think. Just make sure you've got a decent substrate, like Flourite, and they'll do fine. Also, Vallisneria is another good one, spreads like crazy.

Yeah, Amazon Swords are cool, but they can get huge. If you've got a smaller tank, maybe try Dwarf Sagittaria. It's like a mini version and still does well in low light. Plus, it's kinda cute, lol.

I agree with polar on Vallisneria. It's been a lifesaver in my low-light setup. Just be ready to trim it often if you don't want it taking over.

Don't forget about Hornwort. It's not picky about light and grows fast. You can float it or plant it, whatever works for your tank. Just be ready to clean up the bits it sheds.

I've tried all these plants, but my tank is still kinda bare. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? How often should I fertilize in low light?

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll definitely try Cryptocoryne and Vallisneria. Sounds like they're exactly what I need for my setup.

Yo, if your tank's bare, you might not be giving the plants enough time. They grow slow in low light, so patience is key. Fertilize once a week, but go easy, too much can cause algae.
