discovery of julie's eggs

Post by mizonix »

I was observing my transcriptus julies a couple of nights ago and they seemed to be performing some sort of mating ritual in the rocks. Their movements around each other were really interesting - they were circling about an inch apart, one with its fins flared, the other bent in a S shape and shimmying towards the first. This got me thinking, maybe I could give breeding them a shot, so I ordered an eheim 2215 filter to set up my old 29 gallon tank and move them over.

Today was a bit of a disaster, though. I had to return one of the comps I got last week to the shop, which meant removing nearly all the rocks from the tank to catch it. After an hour and a half, I finally got back and started putting the rocks back in. That's when I found them - a clutch of about 50 green eggs, about 1mm across, which I'm pretty sure were laid by the julies. They'd been out of the water the whole time, in a bucket. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll try again soon. Gutted I didn't see them when I took the rocks out.
