raising discus fry feeding tricks
My discus fry aren't growing as fast as I expected. I've been feeding them baby brine shrimp twice a day, but they still look skinny. Tank is 40 gallons, temp at 86°F, with a sponge filter and bare bottom. Water changes are 50% daily. Any tricks to fatten them up?

Yo, you gotta bump up the feeding frequency. Fry need to eat like 5-6 times a day, small amounts. Try adding some microworms or vinegar eels to the mix. They're tiny and packed with nutrients. Also, check your water params, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrate under 10ppm.

I agree with Skyline. More frequent feedings are key. I've had success with a mix of baby brine shrimp and powdered spirulina. My fry are in a 30-gallon tank, temp at 84°F, with a canister filter. I do 30% water changes twice a day. How old are your fry?

Yep, microworms are a game-changer. I culture mine in a small container with oatmeal. Fry go crazy for them. Tank is 50 gallons, temp 85°F, with a HOB filter. Water changes 40% daily.Skyline wrote: ↑Sun May 04, 2025 2:16 am Yo, you gotta bump up the feeding frequency. Fry need to eat like 5-6 times a day, small amounts. I've heard some folks swear by beef heart paste for fry. Gonna try it myself soon. My tank's a 20-gallon, temp at 87°F, with a sponge filter. Water changes are 25% twice a day. Anyone else use beef heart?

Beef heart can work, but it's messy. I prefer a mix of baby brine shrimp and crushed flakes. My fry are in a 55-gallon tank, temp at 85°F, with a canister filter. Water changes are 50% daily. How's your fry's behavior? Are they active?

Beef heart is solid, but make sure it's finely blended. I add a bit of garlic guard to mine. Fry in a 40-gallon, temp 86°F, with a sponge filter. Water changes 50% daily. They're growing like weeds.

Have you considered live blackworms? They're nutrient-dense and easy for fry to eat. My setup is a 30-gallon, temp at 85°F, with a canister filter. Water changes are 40% daily. Fry are thriving on a mix of blackworms and baby brine shrimp.

Live food is the way to go. I culture my own daphnia and grindal worms. Fry in a 60-gallon, temp at 84°F, with a sump. Water changes 50% daily. They're growing fast and have great color. How's your lighting setup?

I'm new to this, but my fry seem to like crushed flakes. Tank is 20-gallon, temp at 86°F, with a sponge filter. Water changes 30% daily. Should I switch to live food?
