about sea horses

Post by sweetie_22 »

so i have a pretty sweet 13 gal nano setup with skimmer, uv, the whole nine yards. it's got some nice lr and red algae goin on, and my manderin goby's doin great. all my water stats are lookin good, so i'm thinkin of addin some seahorses. anyone know of any species that'd thrive in a 13gal, eat brine shrimp, and are pretty interesting to watch? also, they gotta stay small, under 50 bucks, not the fish itself, just the initial cost.

Captive-bred Pygmy Seahorses would actually do well in your tank, they're pretty adaptable. Since they're captive-bred, which is a must due to the CITES ban, they'll eat frozen foods just fine. By the way, you should really mix up your mandarin's diet, frozen brine shrimp can't be the only thing they're eating or they might get some nutritional deficiencies.

Try mixing it up with some mysis shrimp, frozen daphnia's a good option too, just be sure to scoop out any dead ones if you do go live. Mozzie larvae's another one, and even small bits of prawn or shrimp. You could also try tiny pieces of fish. Just experiment with different foods and see what works, variety's key here.

Just came across a great resource on seahorses - what to look for when buying and keeping them. Check this out: http/www.seahorse.org/library/articles/S...tsAndInfo.shtml.
