information on the regal angel

Post by talonix »

hi, so friday morning i bought a pair of regal angels and they're not feeding, i've tried loads of stuff already -

mysis, marine mix, krill, brine shrimp, brine shrimp-garlic, whole cockle, whole mussel, live brine shrimp, lance fish and even seaweed

thing is, i already have a regal angel at home and never had any issues getting them to feed, dont know what's going on with these two, the other regal is a right little pig and will eat anything, but i'm getting worried as they've got really finicky stomachs, sorry about my spelling

any ideas what else i could try?

Hi Scott, sorry to hear your new regal angels aren't feeding. I've had similar problems with mine before, tried all sorts of foods but what worked for me was frozen spirulina and some chopped up clams. Maybe give them a go, also make sure the water quality is good, sometimes that can put them off eating. Also, you could try target feeding them, get some of that food right in front of their face, see if that tempts them. Hope that helps.

i think you should ask the lfs what they were feedin them at the store, or if they were even eatin at all, thats a pretty long list of foods you've already tried, but yeah ask the lfs, they might know somethin

Could try some roe, fish eggs, from an Asian market, might be worth a shot, mate.

Fair play to you, fleeton, I'm made up that someone from the States knows what Roe is. I used to love getting it from the chippy back home in Wolverhampton. Moved up north to Lancashire, and you'd think it's a different country - can't get it anywhere, and most don't even know what it is. Battered with chips, it's the business.

Yeh they were munchin on chopped cockle at the LFS, I've got that in but I've managed to get em to eat a wee bit of live brine shrimp, basically they'll take some in but spit the rest back out.

hi
the female sadly passed away but the male is eating like a pig now, mainly frozen marine mix, no interest in anything else, but the main thing is he's eating so i'm happy now, shame about the female, she was so active and not shy at all, i'll leave the tank for a few months now and then i'll get another female

thanks scott

Sorry to hear about your regal angel, mate. Had a look at this article, might be worth a read, http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/aug2002/Fish.htm. Planning on getting one myself when my new tank is set up.
