Colorful stocking ideas for 26-gallon Juwel

Post by sandpiper »

I'm setting up a 26-gallon Juwel and want a colorful community tank. Looking for suggestions on fish combinations that'll pop. The tank has a dark substrate, moderate lighting, and a sponge filter. Prefer fish that are active and easy to care for.

Yo, sandpiper, you gotta check out some Neon Tetras and Dwarf Gouramis. They're chill, colorful, and won't mess with each other. Throw in some Cherry Barbs for extra red pop. Just keep the water params steady, around 76–78°F, and you're golden.

I'd second the Neon Tetras, but add some Celestial Pearl Danios for a bit of sparkle. They're tiny but pack a punch color-wise. Also, a pair of Honey Gouramis would look killer against the dark substrate. Just watch the temp, they like it around 78°F.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll definitely consider the Neon Tetras and Gouramis. Any thoughts on adding shrimp or snails for cleanup?

Yep, Amano Shrimp are solid for algae control, and they won't bother your fish. Nerite Snails are also a vibe—they're tidy and won't overpopulate. Just avoid big fish that might snack on 'em.

If you're gonna add shrimp, make sure your tank's cycled and stable. Cherry Shrimp are colorful but sketchy with Gouramis—they might get eaten. Nerites are safer, just don't expect 'em to clean the whole tank.

True that. Also, if you're into weird vibes, try some Mystery Snails. They're big, colorful, and kinda fun to watch. Just don't overfeed or you'll have a snail explosion.

Another thought: if you want more movement, add a small school of Harlequin Rasboras. They're orangey-red and super active. They'll school with the Neons and add another layer of color. Just keep the tank well-planted so they feel safe.

Appreciate all the ideas. I think I'll go with Neon Tetras, Honey Gouramis, and maybe some Harlequin Rasboras. Will skip the shrimp for now and stick with Nerites. Thanks again!
