Oops, my mistake
Oops, my mistake
Accidentally overdosed my 20 gallon with Seachem Flourish. It's been 24 hours, and my Java Ferns look wilted. Should I do a big water change or let it ride? Tank has 6 Neon Tetras, 3 Amano Shrimp, and a Betta. Parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate.
Re: Oops, my mistake
Big water change, no question. Flourish overdoses can mess with plants and inverts. I'd do 50% now, then another 30% tomorrow. Keep an eye on the shrimp, they're sensitive. What's your pH and temp?
Re: Oops, my mistake
Agree with Vikingo1. Had a similar scare last month. My Anubias bounced back after two water changes. How much Flourish did you add? Also, check your Betta for stress stripes.
Re: Oops, my mistake
Thanks, doing the water change now. pH is 7.2, temp 78°F. Added double dose by accident.
Re: Oops, my mistake
Double dose isn't catastrophic, but don't push it. Carbon in your filter can help pull excess out. Swap the cartridges if you're using them. How's the Betta behaving?
Re: Oops, my mistake
Betta's probably chillin', but the shrimp might be sketchy. Amanos are tough, but I'd skip feeding for a day. Less bioload while the tank recovers. What kinda substrate you rocking?
Re: Oops, my mistake
Sketchy is right. My Amanos croaked after a fert mishap. Substrate matters here—sand holds onto chemicals longer than gravel.
Re: Oops, my mistake
Yep, sand's a pain for this. Gravel lets stuff flow through. Either way, water changes are your best bet. How often you dosing normally?
Re: Oops, my mistake
This whole thread's giving me flashbacks to my 'oops' moment with Excel. Plants melted, shrimp bolted. Took weeks to fix. Dreamer, you got this though. Just stay on top of those changes.
Re: Oops, my mistake
My plants died once. Now I use a syringe for dosing. No more guesswork. Maybe try that after this clears up?
