Forgot to add water conditioner

Post by fluxy »

Just realized I forgot to add water conditioner during my last water change. It's been about 12 hours. Should I be worried? Tank is a 40 gallon with 6 Discus, a pair of German Blue Rams, and some Cardinal Tetras. Running a Fluval 407 canister filter, temp at 84°F.

Yikes, that's a sketchy move. But hey, your fish might just chill if the tap water wasn't too gnarly. Did you test the water yet? My bet is the Discus are gonna throw a fit if there's chlorine.

Nah, don't freak out yet. I've done this before with my 55 gallon, and the fish were fine. Just add the conditioner now and keep an eye on them. If they start acting weird, do a small water change with conditioned water.

My tank crashed once when I forgot the conditioner. Lost two Angels. Better safe than sorry, add it ASAP.

Just tested, ammonia is 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 10 ppm. No signs of stress in the fish yet. Gonna add the conditioner now.

Good call. If the params are stable, you're probably fine. My Cardinals are tough as nails, they've survived worse. Just keep the lights low for a bit to reduce stress.

Sweet, sounds like you dodged a bullet. Those Discus are pricey, wouldn't wanna mess with their vibe.

Always double-check the conditioner. I use a checklist now, saves me from panic moments.

That's smart. I started setting reminders on my phone after my last oops moment. Works like a charm.
