Possible internal parasites in new royal grammas

Post by petalux9 »

I recently brought home a royal gramma, and I've noticed its belly looks a bit sunken after just two days. The good news is it's eating well, even taking flake food, which is a great sign. However, I haven't seen it poop yet, so I'm not sure if internal parasites could be the issue. I know I shouldn't have been so impatient and skipped quarantine, but it's already in the display tank. Now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and treat with Prazipro for possible parasites or wait a few more days to see how its belly looks.

Does your display tank have live rock and inverts, as that would make medicating a bit tricky. I'm curious, was the royal gramma's belly like that when you first brought it home, or has this developed since? Given that it's eating so well, I'd be inclined to hold off on treatment for now. Marine fish often refuse food when they're sick, so this is a promising sign. It's possible the fish was stressed from shipping or not fed well at the store, which could be contributing to its appearance. Let's give it another day or two to see if its condition improves before considering any medication.

I'm starting to think the only issue here is an overanxious aquarist. My royal gramma's belly is looking better already, and I've finally spotted some normal-looking poop. Just a friendly reminder, though: QT is crucial, and I feel pretty lucky to have dodged a bullet this time.

I've come across some info suggesting Prazipro is reef-safe, even if it's not ideal for display tank treatment. Has anyone out there had experience using it with live rock and inverts?
