Euphyllia ancora placement advice
Euphyllia ancora placement advice
Just got a Euphyllia ancora frag and I'm unsure about placement. My tank is a 40-gallon mixed reef with AI Prime lighting, running at 70% intensity for 8 hours. Parameters are stable, 8.2 pH, 1.025 salinity, 0 phosphate. Should I put it mid-level or lower? It's currently on the sandbed but seems a bit stretched.

Mid-level sounds better if it's stretching. I've got mine on a rock ledge about halfway up in a 50-gallon with similar lighting. They like moderate flow too, so avoid direct blast from your powerhead. What's your nitrate sitting at? High nitrates can make them sulk.
Re: Euphyllia ancora placement advice
Mine thrived low in the tank with kinda indirect flow, but every system's different. If it's reaching for light, def move it up. Sandbed's sketchy long-term 'cause detritus builds up. You running a protein skimmer?
Re: Euphyllia ancora placement advice
Yeah, detritus is a pain. I'd go mid-level near a rock crevice. Gives 'em shade options if the light's too much. How old's your tank?
Re: Euphyllia ancora placement advice
Mine's happy mid-tank with gentle sway. Tried it high once and it bleached. Maybe start middle and adjust? What coral's nearby? Aggressive neighbors mess with 'em.
Re: Euphyllia ancora placement advice
Keep it away from torches or hammers if you've got 'em. My ancora got stung bad last year. Mid-level's the sweet spot, like 12-18" from light. You dosing anything?
Re: Euphyllia ancora placement advice
Thanks, all. Nitrates are at 5 ppm, skimmer's a Reef Octopus. Tank's 6 months old. I'll move it up to a rock ledge and watch the flow. Appreciate the tips!

Solid plan. At 6 months, just keep an eye on alk swings. Newer tanks can be unstable. What salt mix you using?

Frag's gonna take a week or two to settle after the move. Don't freak if it stays closed a bit. Mine looked dead for days then popped open like nothing happened. You feeding it?
