I'm thinking of switching to a malawi setup but I'm really attached to my two female nicaraguas, don't mind about the rest. My main concern is whether I can keep some species with them.
I'm clueless about the water requirements for old world cichlids, so feel free to tell me I'm being silly if that's the case, just looking for some insight.
Cheers.

Re: exploring nicaragua in the old world
Honestly, I'd advise against it, different species like malawis and nicaraguas have unique needs, water parameters being a big one, plus varying maturity rates, it's a recipe for disaster.

The pH might actually work out, but personally, I wouldn't risk it, Nics are pretty fragile despite their bold nature. They're always starting trouble, but can't really take the heat.
By the way, where are you from? I know a few people looking for Nics, so we might be able to help you rehome them if you decide to go that route.
