Can't believe this happened!
Just walked in to find my 55 gallon tank cracked at the bottom. Water everywhere, fish stressed but alive. How does this even happen? Tank's only 2 years old, no recent bumps or drops.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
That's rough. Glass or acrylic? If it's glass, sometimes stress fractures develop over time, especially if the stand wasn't perfectly level. Had a similar thing happen with my 40 breeder last year. Lost a few tetras but saved the rest.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
Yikes, glad the fish are okay. Did you have it on a solid stand? I've heard of tanks cracking if the weight distribution's off, even if it looks fine. Maybe check the warranty if it's only 2 years old.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
Mine cracked once too. Scary stuff. What kind of fish you got in there? Hope they're not too big to move quick.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
Classic. Bet you're gonna be mopping for days. At least it's not saltwater, right? That'd be a real nightmare.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
Man, that sucks. Had a 20 gallon give out on me once, same deal. No obvious reason. You got a backup tank or bin to temp house them? Gonna need to act fast.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
Thanks for the advice, everyone. Managed to move the fish to a spare 20 gallon I had. They're all cichlids, so they're not thrilled about the tight space, but it's better than nothing.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
Good call on the temp tank. Watch the aggression with cichlids in close quarters. Maybe add some extra hides or dividers if you've got 'em.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
Yeah, cichlids can get feisty when cramped. What's your filtration like in the 20? Might need to up the water changes to keep params stable.
Re: Can't believe this happened!
Or just let 'em duke it out. Survival of the fittest, am I right? Kidding, kidding. Mostly.
