My new aquarium setup will be a 200 gallon tank

Post by tinylux9 »

Getting a 200-gallon fish tank for my birthday (July 8) - it's been a dream since I was a kid. I'm planning to fill it with the most stunning corals and fish I can find, but I'm clueless about saltwater setups. Any suggestions would be super helpful, especially for stocking my new tank. Already picked out a beautiful tank with wood trim, so that's a start. If you've got any ideas for coral or fish species, or just general tank advice, please share. I'm really looking forward to this, so thanks in advance for any help.

For coflakes, lighting is key, so you'll want to consider that when choosing. If you're going low-light, zoanthids and mushrooms are good options, especially for beginners. As for the tank itself, you're looking at a minimum of 200lbs of live rock if you want to create a reef tank - that's a pretty penny. For fish, a pair of tomato clowns could be a great addition, or maybe a school of chromis if you're into that sort of thing.

Considering my tank size, I'm thinking of a Zebra Moray - they seem like a great choice. For a school, Hawaikento4 Black Triggers could be awesome, I love their appearance.

Congrats on the new tank, that's awesome. I'm actually thinking of getting a saltwater tank too, but I'm trying to get some experience with freshwater first before making the jump to saltwater.

You gotta get a stingray, man. They're so cool. I just saw some on Aquabid, you should check it out.

A dispar anthias shoal would be amazing. You should check out liveaquaria.com and DeepB23.com for inspiration, they have some awesome ideas on there.

I'm glad you liked the anthias suggestion. Those sites I mentioned, liveaquaria and DeepB23, really have some awesome ideas for stocking your tank. I've been browsing through them myself, and I'm sure you'll find some inspiration there.

I gotta correct you on the stingray idea, jovelin - the ones you've shown pics of are FW, and we're in the SW section, just saying.

I completely agree, they wouldn't thrive in a saltwater environment.
