I've got a simple setup: a siphon and a couple buckets. My 55-gallon has sand and a few plants. Discus seem fine with it, but I always check the temp before adding new water. Slow and steady works for me.

A pump is definitely faster. I use a Sicce Syncra too, and it's a huge time-saver. My 100-gallon is planted with CO2, and the Discus don't even notice the changes. Worth the upgrade if you're tired of waiting.

I just use a hose and buckets. My 60-gallon has sand and driftwood. Discus are okay with it, but I make sure the temp's close. Not gonna spend money on fancy gear when this works.
