Just got my first aquarium up and running, super excited. We've recently added 2 sunnygolds and 2 blue tursio cichlids to the mix.
I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out the sex of my tursios, was wondering if anyone could lend a hand.
Specifically, I'd love to know if you can determine the sex based on the anal fins?
I've attached a pic of them, any help would be great.

Re: meeting my new additions
Hi and welcome to the forum.
I'd love to help you with the sexing of your blue tursios, but first, a couple of questions to ensure we're on the right track. How big are your Cyrtocara moorii, and more importantly, has your tank's filter been cycled yet? If not, I'd recommend keeping the feeding down to a couple of times a week for now, and keeping a close eye on those ammonia and nitrite levels. If you do notice any spikes, a 75% water change and a good gravel clean of the substrate should do the trick. Oh, and one more thing - make sure any new water you add is chlorine and chloramine-free.

Re: meeting my new additions
Hey coltin,
My blue tursios are roughly 5cm in length, and as they were kept in a dark environment by the breeder, they're getting used to the brighter conditions in our tank.
Fortunately, our tank was fully cycled and ready for the new additions. We've been regularly testing the water every 2-3 days, and we plan to continue this routine to ensure everything stays stable.

Re: meeting my new additions
At this point, it's likely too early to determine the sex of your blue tursios. Given their age and size, a few months of proper nutrition will be needed for them to mature, making it easier to identify their sex. One of your tursios has a damaged anal fin, which might make it difficult to determine its sex, while the other one could be a female, but it's still too early to be certain.
Re: meeting my new additions
Thanks for the advice, I suspected the fin damage. I'll make sure to feed them well and see how they develop. At what age can I realistically expect to sex the blue tursios?
Re: meeting my new additions
When they're around 4 inches long, you can usually get a pretty accurate sexing.
