Weekly water changes are a must, especially in smaller tanks. The bigger the tank, the more stable the environment, but regular maintenance is still key.

I've got a 5-gallon with a betta and a snail. Works fine, but I do weekly water changes to keep things clean. Might upgrade to a 10-gallon soon though.

That's a good plan. The upgrade will give your betta more space and make maintenance a bit easier in the long run.
