flatworm control in reef tank

Post by lexicon »

Noticed a bunch of flatworms on my Zoanthids today. They're spreading fast and I'm worried they'll mess with my other corals. Anyone got a solid way to cut it without nuking the tank? Running a 75g with mixed LPS and SPS, 2 clowns, and a clean-up crew.

Had the same issue last month. Flatworm Exit worked for me, but you gotta siphon out as many as possible first. Also, keep an eye on your parameters after treatment, it can get sketchy if you don't.

Flatworm Exit is solid, but you need to follow the dosing exactly. Overdo it and you'll crash the tank. I'd also add a wrasse like a Six Line or Melanurus, they'll pick at the leftovers.

Yep, siphoning is key. I used a turkey baster to blast them off the rocks before treating. Saved me a lot of hassle.

Agree with the wrasse suggestion. My Melanurus wiped out my flatworm problem in a week. Just make sure your tank's big enough for one, they need space to roam.

If you're gonna use Flatworm Exit, have carbon ready to toss in after. The toxins from dying flatworms can freak out your fish. Happened to my buddy's tank, wasn't pretty.

I've heard mixed things about Flatworm Exit. Some say it's chill, others say it's risky. Maybe try manual removal first? Less chance of a crash.

What's the best way to siphon them out? I've got a small tank, 30g, and don't wanna mess with chemicals if I can avoid it.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna try siphoning first and maybe grab a wrasse if that doesn't cut it. Appreciate the help.

Use a small hose and a bucket. Just hover over the flatworms and they'll get sucked right up. Easy peasy.
