Can these fish coexist peacefully?

Post by whimsy »

Hi all,

I'm in the process of selecting some new fish for my tank, which is currently cycling. I'm from the UK, just to give you some context.

I've narrowed it down to a few options:

- Aulonocara jacobfreibergi Mamalala, also known as Citrus Jake
- Aulonocara stuartgranti Blue Neon Chiwindi
- Aulonocara stuartgranti German Red peacock
- Aulonocara stuartgranti "Ngara Flametail" peacock
- Red Top Lwanda - this one really catches my eye, it's stunning
- Yello Labs

I'm having trouble deciding, so I thought I'd ask for your input - will they all get along in the same tank?

Thanks in advance for your advice, and any comments are more than welcome.

Depends on your tank setup, to be honest. If you do decide to get them all, I'd recommend sticking to male peacocks - the females can lead to hybridization, which isn't ideal for maintaining pure bloodlines. The only ones that give me pause are the Yellow Labs, as Mbuna can be pretty feisty, and peacocks aren't exactly built for dealing with that kind of aggression.

I'm curious, what's the tank size looking like. I think the labs will actually get along just fine with the peacocks, they're one of the more peaceful Mbuna. I've had them mixed with my haps and peacocks for years, no issues, until I decided to switch things up. My main concern would be the Jake and Lwanda, both can be a bit feisty for peacocks and they do bear a resemblance to each other.
