It's not uncommon for fry to make it through when adults don't. Sometimes the loss of one fish can trigger a chain reaction, and before you know it, things start to go downhill. Losing pets is always tough, and it's normal to feel demoralized. But if you've genuinely enjoyed having fish in the past, I think you'll find that the joy comes back if you give yourself time to heal and reflect on why you started this hobby in the first place.

First off, I want to offer some emotional support - I'm really sorry for your loss. It's tough to see so many fish go like that. If it's any consolation, I've had my own struggles with keeping certain fish alive, like tetras. I've found that my hard water doesn't agree with them, but I've recently started using RO water and it's made a big difference. I've even managed to keep a small group of them alive for a little while now.

As for what might have caused the problem, I'm curious - are you on a private water source or a municipal system? And where are you located? I'm wondering if there might have been a sudden change in the water quality due to drought or some other natural condition. If you're on a municipal system, it's possible that the water supplier changed something that affected your tank.

I'm actually dealing with a similar issue right now - one of my tanks turned cloudy out of the blue, and I'm trying to figure out what happened. The weird thing is that the tanks on either side of it are perfectly clear. I'm doing daily water changes and testing the parameters, but I'm still not sure what's going on. Despite the frustration, I'm kind of excited about the possibility of introducing new fish to the tank once it's back to normal. Hopefully, you'll be able to get excited about some new residents too.

The tank's looking a lot better today, much clearer anyway. Been thinking about it and I'm starting to wonder if the issue might have been with the filter. When I first saw the tank yesterday, all the dead fish were on the bottom and the water was really cloudy. But then after I turned the filter off and on again, I came back and most of the dead fish were floating at the top of the water. Makes me think maybe the improved water flow just moved them to the surface.

It's been a few days now and I'm pleased to report no more deaths or issues with cloudy water. I did decide to change the filter on Saturday, just to be on the safe side, although I did reuse the same media in the new one. To be honest, I'm still feeling a bit cautious about adding any new fish, I don't want to risk introducing them to a potential problem that's still lurking in the tank.
