I'm thinking of mixing clown loaches with mbuna cichlids, is that a good idea?

Avoid mixing clown loaches with mbuna cichlids - it's a recipe for disaster. The loaches would be under constant stress from the cichlids, and they're better suited to strong current environments.

For a tank floor dweller, consider a group of Rift Valley lake synodontis instead - try njasae, multipunctata, grandiops, lucipinnis, or petricola.
