Safe to use another medication?

Post by flavon »

I've been treating my tank with Metroplex for a week, but my fish still look off. Is it safe to switch to Kanaplex now, or should I wait longer? Water params are good, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate. Tank is a 20 gallon with 6 guppies and some Java fern.

Metroplex is more for internal infections, while Kanaplex targets external stuff like fin rot. What symptoms are you seeing? If it's just lethargy, might be worth waiting another few days. Guppies can be sensitive to meds.

Yo, I'd cut the Metroplex if it's been a week with no improvement. Kanaplex is chill for guppies, just half-dose it if you're sketched out. Also, check your temp—guppies hate cold swings.

Half-dosing is smart, but have you tried salt first? Less harsh than meds. My guppies bounced back with just aquarium salt and clean water.

Salt's a solid move, but if it's bacterial, Kanaplex is the way to go. Just make sure your filter media isn't carbon, or it'll suck up the meds. Been there, wasted meds, learned the hard way.

I'm so sorry your fish are struggling! It's stressful when meds don't work. Maybe try a water change before switching? Sometimes fresh water helps more than we think. Sending good vibes your way.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'll try a water change and salt before jumping to Kanaplex. Temp's steady at 78, so that's not the issue. Appreciate the help!

Bruh, Metroplex never did squat for my tank. Kanaplex is the real deal. Just sayin'.

Lol, same. But yeah, flavon, if salt doesn't cut it, Kanaplex won't wreck your cycle if you follow the directions. Just keep an eye on the Java fern—some meds melt plants.

I agree with trying salt first. It's gentler. My guppies always perk up after a little salt and extra water changes.
