This fish might be a stopgap for phosphate-related hair algae issues, given its diet.

While Rainsford's gobies do eat some hair algae, it's not nearly enough to make a dent in the problem. What they really thrive on is the microfauna that filamentous algae provides, that's their main source of food.

I'm curious to know, do the Hector's and Rainsford's gobies have similar feeding habits, considering they both seem to have a taste for filamentous algae and 'pods?

I'm going to take a guess, though I've no personal experience with Rainsford's gobies.
