Just checked on my fish and I think one of my females might be holding. There's this bulge under her mouth and I've read that can be a sign. I'm still learning about cichlids, but I did see a female and the dominant male swimming in circles a few days ago - looked like they were getting ready to breed.
I've got some pics, but they're not great since she won't stop moving.
If someone can confirm she's holding, I'll start looking into what I need to do next.
I've read that occasionally a female may take a small bite but I haven't witnessed it myself. They're naturally designed to handle this period without food, so no need to worry. If you notice she's holding for too long or losing condition, then it's best to intervene and strip the young.

Yeah, I've read that sometimes a female may take a small amount but I haven't seen that. They're adapted to cope, so don't worry. If you feel she is holding too long or getting to thin/weak then strip the young.
