best discus tank feeding schedule
I've got a 75-gallon tank with six Discus, all around 4 inches. Been feeding them frozen bloodworms twice a day, but their growth seems stalled. Anyone got a solid feeding routine that's worked for them? Tank's got sand substrate, a Fluval canister filter, and a bunch of driftwood. Water's at 84°F, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate.

Twice a day might not cut it for growth. I feed mine four times daily, rotating between frozen beef heart, brine shrimp, and high-quality pellets. Key is small portions so they finish fast. My 90-gallon has eight Discus, all over 5 inches now. Also, keep nitrates under 20 ppm, they're sensitive to that.

Yep, gotta up the feeding frequency. I do three times a day with a mix of flakes, frozen stuff, and live blackworms. My crew's in a 55-gallon with a sponge filter, and they're thriving. Water changes twice a week, 30% each, keeps things crisp.

Totally agree with sunsets and Boldy. More feedings, smaller amounts. I've seen the best growth with five light feedings daily. My Discus are in a 120-gallon planted tank with CO2, and they're monsters now. Also, try adding some vitamins to their food, makes a difference.

How long y'all wait between feedings? I'm doing three times a day but my guys just kinda chill near the top after the first round. Tank's a 65-gallon with a HOB filter, temp at 86°F. Maybe I'm overdoing the portions?

Try spacing it out every 4-5 hours. If they're loafing after eating, cut the portion size. My Discus are in a 75-gallon with a sump, and they're always ready to eat. Also, check your flow, too much current can stress them out.

I'm new to Discus but my LFS guy said to feed 'em small amounts every 3 hours. Got a 40-gallon breeder with four juveniles, and they're growing like weeds. Using a mix of pellets and freeze-dried tubifex. Tank's got a sponge filter and tons of java fern.

Aight, so more feedings, less food each time. Got it. My 50-gallon's got five Discus, and I've been slacking with twice a day. Gonna step it up. Running a Tidal filter, temp at 85°F. They're kinda picky with pellets though, any tricks to get 'em on it?

Mine wouldn't touch pellets either till I soaked 'em in garlic guard. Now they go nuts for it. 60-gallon tank, six Discus, Eheim canister filter. Feed 'em four times a day, mix of pellets, frozen, and live brine. Water changes every three days, 25%.

Garlic guard's a solid move. Also, try fasting them one day a week, helps with digestion. My 55-gallon's got seven Discus, all healthy. Feed 'em three times daily, mostly frozen foods. Tank's got a sand bottom and a bunch of anubias.
