I caught that too, Pat. The discus in that video aren't exactly thriving.

I'm intrigued by this topic. Goldfish will chow down on anything, so they could be beneficial in a discus tank. That video is from a dealer, so I'm guessing they're doing massive water changes daily. A short-term setup with a goldfish and discus might not be a big deal. I didn't get a good look at the fish in the video, though - had an ad covering half the screen. I'm curious about the long-term effects, though. I'm worried the goldfish might develop a taste for the discus' slime coat and stress them out. I'm keeping an eye on Vinnie's experiment.

Years ago I used to see tadpoles being used for algae and waste control in aquariums. Not so common anymore, though. I'm not aware of anyone trying them with discus.

I had an unexpected encounter with them, actually. My Jet Black Ram fry tank had an accidental spawn of tadpoles. I let them grow a bit before catching them, which wasn't too difficult since they're quite easy to net in a bare-bottom tank - unlike fish, they aren't naturally wary of the net.

This concept seems fascinating, and I'm intrigued by the idea of utilizing a goldfish as an additional layer of protection. Regular 50% water changes every two days, combined with the goldfish, could provide an extra level of security for my discus. I've observed my discus occasionally picking at their own waste, so having a goldfish to help clean up might be beneficial.
