For optimal growth, ensure your water parameters are stable. Ludwigia repens prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.5-7.5) and moderate hardness. Consistent fertilization also helps with root development.

Adding to this, make sure your nitrates aren't too high, or you'll get algae competing with the plants.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. I'll try cutting and replanting a few stems today and see how it goes.
