One more thing, don't forget about flow. I had a bunch of plants in a dead zone and they just collected detritus. Moved the filter output and it made a huge difference.

Flow is key. I also learned that the hard way. My Vallisneria kept getting covered in gunk until I adjusted the current. Now it's growing like crazy.

Yeah, flow's a big deal. I had the opposite problem, too much current. My floaters kept getting pushed under. Had to dial it back a notch.
