Husbands or none?

Post by Avila »

I've been debating whether to keep a pair of Discus or go solo with a single showpiece fish. Anyone have experience with both setups? My tank's a 75 gallon with sand substrate, planted with Amazon Swords and Vallisneria. Filtration is a Fluval 407, and I do 30% water changes weekly.

A pair can work if they bond, but solo Discus often thrive better without competition. In a 75, you've got space, but watch aggression during feeding. What's your current temp and pH? They're picky about stability.

Yolo, go for the pair! My dude's solo Discus got lonely, started glass surfing. Now he's got a buddy and they're chill. Tank's smaller than yours though, 40 breeder. Sand's a good call, easy to clean.

Never kept Discus, but my Angelfish pair wrecked the tank vibe. Maybe start solo, add later if it's too quiet? Dunno, just my two cents.

Temp's at 84F, pH 6.8 with CO2 running. You think that's too tight for two?

Params sound solid. If you're dosing CO2, just monitor for stress. Pair might work if you introduce them together. Ever tried a divider to test compatibility first? Slow intros save headaches.

Divider's smart. My LFS does that with their display pairs. Also, beef heart's the way to go for growth, but man does it stink. Worth it though, colors pop.

Yeah, but messy eaters = more water changes. You ready for that, OP?

Thanks, all. Gonna try the divider method and see how they vibe. Appreciate the beef heart tip too, even if my apartment's gonna smell like a butcher shop.
