Keeping percula clowns with a malu anemone

Post by reef_digger »

Really appreciate any advice or guidance...

I've got 2 percula clowns and a Malu Anemone in my tank, and everything seems fine, but only one clown is actually resting in the anemone. I was kinda hoping both would make themselves at home in there. Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Thanks

Clowns can be finicky, similar to how some people have their own preferences. You've got some that'll host anemones, others that won't, some might host corals, and then there are those that'll just host nothing at all. Each one's different, so don't worry about it.

If the female's getting along with the anemone, just give it some time. I've had a similar experience with my tomato clowns - the female was the first to take to the anemone, and whenever the male tried to get in, she'd chase him off. They were just figuring out who's boss, but after a couple of weeks, things settled down.

OLD THREAD WARNING

reef_digger, i think flintcore made a good point, if the female is resting in the anemone well, maybe just give it some time, maybe the male is just being a bit stubborn, not sure if you've tried this, but have you checked the anemone for any signs of stress or disease, maybe the male clown is just being cautious, just a thought

If the female's settling in well, just give it some time. I had a similar experience with my tomato clowns - the female would claim the anemone and chase the male off whenever he came near. It's just a dominance thing, they're figuring out who's in charge. Give it a couple of weeks, and they should calm down.

I've had my fair share of similar experiences in the past.
