Can soft corals handle high flow?

Post by pastime1 »

I've got a 75-gallon tank with a couple of powerheads running at max. My Gorgonians seem fine, but the Xenia is looking kinda stressed. Anyone else seen this?

Xenia's weird with flow. They like moderate movement, not direct blasting. What's your placement like? Mine thrive mid-tank, 6 inches from the powerhead, but wilt if too close. Also, check your nitrates—they're sensitive to dirty water.

I agree with flame9x. My Xenia did the same until I moved them lower. They're much happier now, and my Kenya Tree Coral loves the high flow up top. Maybe try adjusting their spot?

Yo, my Xenia straight up melted in high flow. Switched to a wavemaker on pulse mode, and now they're chillin'. Maybe dial it back a notch?

Pulse mode's a solid call. I run mine at 30% intensity, 5-second intervals. Xenia's thriving, and my Zoas are happy too.

My tank's got crazy flow, but the Leather Corals don't mind. Xenia's just picky, man. Maybe try a different soft coral if the flow's non-negotiable.

Flow's tricky. I've got a 120-gallon with dual MP40s. Xenia hates it, but my Sinularia and Toadstools are loving life. Maybe swap out the Xenia for something hardier?

Xenia's a diva. My tank's got high flow, and they just won't cooperate. Switched to Ricordea and Mushrooms, and it's been smooth sailing. Sometimes you gotta cut your losses.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Gonna try moving the Xenia lower and tweaking the powerheads. Appreciate the help!

Good luck! Let us know how it goes. Soft corals can be finicky, but once you find their sweet spot, they're golden.
