Choosing corals for low maintenance
I'm setting up a new 40-gallon tank and want corals that don't need much attention. What are the best options for beginners? I've got moderate lighting and a basic protein skimmer.

Zoanthids and Mushrooms are your best bet, dude. They're chill and don't need crazy light or flow. Just keep your params stable, and they'll thrive. I've had mine for years with minimal fuss.

Agree with coastr. Zoanthids are hardy, but avoid Palythoa if you're new—they can be sketchy with toxins. Mushrooms spread like crazy, so give 'em space. What's your nitrate level at?

My nitrates are around 10 ppm. I've heard Leather Corals are easy too. Anyone got experience with those?

I'd add Green Star Polyps to the list. They're indestructible and spread quick. Just glue 'em to a rock and forget about 'em. Mine survived a tank crash last year.

GSP is great, but it's gonna take over your tank if you let it. Maybe try Xenia too—it pulses and looks cool, but it's another one that spreads like wildfire.

For low maintenance, stick to soft corals. Avoid SPS like Acropora—they're finicky and need perfect water. What's your lighting schedule like?

I run my lights 8 hours a day. Is that enough for Zoanthids?

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll start with Zoanthids and Mushrooms and see how it goes.
