Damselfish digging behavior

Post by tidecatcher »

my yellowtail damselfish are doing this weird thing - they dig a hole, and then after a couple of days they cover it up with tiny rocks. what's going on with my fish? can someone help me figure this out?

Sounds like normal damselfish behaviour to me. They're probably creating a nest or a sheltered spot.

Home building's a possibility and it might be a sign they're getting ready to spawn. My female fijkento4 does the same thing in my nano, regularly digging pits.
