RODI unit leaking after filter change

Post by justonix »

My RODI unit started leaking right after I changed the filters. It's a 4-stage system, and the leak is coming from the housing of the second stage. I tightened everything, but it's still dripping. Anyone else run into this?

Yep, had the same issue last month. Did you replace the O-rings when you swapped the filters? Those things can get worn out and cause leaks if they're not sealing right. Also, check if the housing is cracked, sometimes overtightening can mess with it.

I'd recommend inspecting the housing for any cracks or scratches. Even a small imperfection can cause a leak. If it's not the housing, maybe the filter isn't seated properly. Try reseating it and see if that helps.

Exactly this. O-rings are often the culprit. If they're dry or damaged, they won't seal. A little silicone grease can help if they're just dry.

Mine leaked once because the filter wasn't pushed all the way in. Felt like it was seated, but nope. Double-check that, and maybe give the O-rings a light coat of grease like Murder said.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check the O-rings and try reseating the filter. Didn't think about the grease, that's a good idea.

No prob. Let us know how it goes. If it's still leaking after all that, might be time to replace the housing. They're pretty cheap online.

Also, make sure you're using the right size O-rings. Sometimes the ones that come with replacement filters aren't the best fit.

Good point. I've had to buy separate O-rings before because the included ones were sketchy.

Yeah, third-party O-rings can be hit or miss. Stick with the brand's replacements if you can.
