A newcomer's introduction

Post by folkride »

Hey all
New to this but I'm looking for some tank mate ideas for my african cichlid tank.
I'm running a cycle right now with 10 danios and 5 bloodfin tetras my buddy gave me from his cycled tank. I've got a 60 gal tank with two aquaclear 110's and aragonite sand substrate. Would really appreciate any suggestions, thanks in advance!

Hey folkride,
I'm not exactly a cichlid expert, but I'd say you're looking for species that max out at around 8 inches in a 60-gallon setup. You planning on rehoming the danios and tetras once the cycle's complete? And how's the water change schedule going - keeping up with daily changes?

To get a better idea of what cichlids would work for you, what's the tank's length, width, and height? The length, in particular, is pretty important when it comes to stocking African cichlids.

The tank dimensions are 48 inches wide, 12.5 inches deep, and 25 inches high. I'm definitely rehoming the danios and tetras once the cycle is complete - it wouldn't be fair to them to have to deal with the aggression of the cichlids. And yeah, I'm committed to keeping up with the necessary daily water changes to ensure the health and well-being of my future fish.
