Plants for a High-Flow Nano

Post by onyxim »

Setting up a 5 gallon nano with a strong HOB filter. What plants can handle the flow without getting shredded? I've got some Java Fern but worried it's gonna get wrecked.

Anubias Nana is a solid choice for high flow. It's tough and can be tied to rocks or driftwood. I've had mine in a similar setup for months, no issues.

Bucephalandra is another great option. It's hardy, grows slow, and won't mind the flow. Just make sure it's anchored well. What's your lighting like?

I've had success with Cryptocoryne Wendtii in high flow. It stays low and spreads out, so the flow doesn't bother it much. Substrate matters though, what are you using?

My Java Fern got torn up in high flow. Switched to Anubias and it's doing way better. Maybe try that.

How about mosses? Java Moss or Christmas Moss can handle flow if you attach them to something. They'll sway with the current, looks pretty cool.

Yep, Anubias is a champ. Just don't bury the rhizome or it'll rot. What's your water temp?

Dude, go for some Marimo balls. They're indestructible and roll with the flow. Plus, they're low maintenance, just gotta squeeze 'em out during water changes.

Vallisneria might work if you trim it regularly. It grows fast and can handle flow, but it'll need nutrients. What's your dosing routine?

I agree, mosses are a safe bet. They're also great for shrimp if you decide to add any later.
