can i add two clownfish at once

Post by fabletta »

I've got a 30-gallon tank with live rock and a protein skimmer. Thinking of adding two clownfish at the same time. Will they fight or is it cool to add them together? Tank's been running for six months, params are stable, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10 nitrate.

Yep, you can add two clownfish at once, especially if they're small. They're likely to pair up if they're around the same size. Just watch for aggression at first. My pair started chill but now they're inseparable. What kind of clownfish are you getting?

Adding two clownfish together is generally fine, but it depends on the species. Ocellaris are more peaceful, while Maroons can be territorial. If your tank's established and you've got hiding spots, they should adjust. Monitor their behavior for the first few days.

Agreed. Also, make sure they're introduced at the same time to avoid territorial disputes. I've had success with Ocellaris pairs in my 40-gallon.

yo, just toss 'em in together. clownfish are hardy af. my pair didn't even blink when i added 'em. tank's been solid ever since. just keep an eye on the bigger one if there's a size difference.

I added two clownfish to my 20-gallon last month. They hid for a day but now they're out all the time. No fights, just vibes. Make sure your tank's cycled and you're golden.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm gonna go with two Ocellaris. They're small and from the same batch, so hopefully they'll pair up without issues. Appreciate the help!

Nice choice! Ocellaris are super chill. Post pics when they settle in, would love to see 'em.

Just remember to acclimate them slowly. Sudden changes can stress them out, even if the tank's stable. Drip acclimation works best for saltwater fish.

Also, keep an eye on feeding. Sometimes one clownfish can hog the food. Try spreading it out so both get their share. Good luck with your new pair!
