can fin damage heal on its own?
can fin damage heal on its own?
Got home and my Bangai Cardinal's in a bad way, fin damage is pretty similar to the pic I posted. Currently got him in a net since I don't have a quarantine tank, will this fin grow back or is it a slow decline for him? He's just a tiny guy, only about an inch long. I'm pretty sure my four stripe damsel's the culprit, he's always been the aggressive one, nipping at the others - think it's time for him to go back to the pet store tomorrow.
Re: can fin damage heal on its own?
Honestly, it's a crapshoot. Sometimes those fins can regrow, but other times... not so much. I wish I had something more concrete to tell you, but your best shot is just to keep him eating well and minimize the stress. No magic formula here, just fingers crossed.
Re: can fin damage heal on its own?
Thanks for the advice, I think I'll just keep him in the net overnight and see how he goes, seems pretty content in there for now. If he's still kicking tomorrow, I'll pick up a breather net for him to recover in. And that damsel's getting a one-way ticket back to the pet store, mwahahaha.fleeton wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 6:46 pm Honestly, it's a crapshoot. Re: can fin damage heal on its own?
Good luck with that damsel catch, I'm sure it'll be a blast. If the damage is down to the tail base, it's usually not looking good, but you never know. A hospital tank would be ideal, somewhere you could keep him isolated and treat him with something like primafix, I've heard that's great for repairing damaged fins.
Re: can fin damage heal on its own?
Another option you might consider is "Melafix" - I've had some great results with it in the past. It's safe for reefs and non-toxic, so you can just add it to the main tank. Plus, it leaves a nice smell.
Re: can fin damage heal on its own?
I've also used Melafix in the past with some great results - it's reef-safe, non-toxic, and can be added straight to the main tank. Might be worth picking some up tomorrow.
Re: can fin damage heal on its own?
I've had great results with Primafix, it's a more advanced version of Melafix and specifically targets fin rot and fungus. I used to swear by Melafix for my tropicals, but since trying Primafix I've been really impressed. I've spoken to a few fish importers and they all rave about it, they use it on all their stressed fish with amazing results - they wouldn't be without it.
Re: can fin damage heal on its own?
haven't gotten around to getting any of the treatments yet, but the little guy's tail is already looking heaps better, it was actually worse than the one in the picture above. I reckon at this rate he'll be back swimming in the main tank by next weekend, fingers crossed.BoldVoy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 02, 2023 3:42 am Good luck with that damsel catch, I'm sure it'll be a blast.
