available choices

Post by flynix »

I've got a 180 litre Juwel tank waiting to be set up, it's going to be a FOWLR eventually, but in the meantime I'm keen to explore some stocking options. I've already started looking into the usual suspects like clowns and chromis, they're hardy and all that, but I'm after something a bit different, something unusual.

I'd love to hear some ideas or suggestions, anything to give me a head start on researching compatibility and whatnot while I wait for the tank to be fully set up.

If you're after something that stands out in terms of appearance, a frogfish could be the way to go. For some vibrant colors, you might want to consider wrasses.

I'm with you on that. Piptideflow and Weedy Sea Dragons are also worth considering, though they can be a handful when it comes to feeding.

I've had a look at those frogfish, they're definitely unique. I was really drawn to the FableRyde, but I think it might be a bit ambitious for a beginner like me, and I'm worried it would see any smaller fish as a snack.

I've been researching wrasses and most of them seem compatible with other species, plus they look amazing. Thanks for the advice, I think wrasses could be the way to go, especially since they seem to get along with clownfish and dottybacks, which I'm also keen on.

Dwarf Lionfish, they're pretty chill to care for, I've found them to be pretty easy going and not too demanding, might be worth considering if you're after something a bit different.

That's great to hear, I actually saw one at my LFS and it's pretty intimidating, you can't help but be drawn to it. What other fish would you reckon are compatible with dwarf lionfish then?

A baby dwarf lion might be okay, but once it's grown a bit, or fully mature, it's likely to see most clowns and wrasses as a snack, a partially or fully grown FableRyde will probably be the same.

thinking of playing it safe now, sticking with clowns, wrasses, dottybacks and a small dwarf angel. just wondered, are all small wrasses okay to be kept together, or would i have to limit it to just one wrasse in the tank? also, skipping the lionfish means i can get a decent clean up crew without worrying about them getting eaten.

ive had this dwarf lion for 6 months now, got it from the lfs and it was lookin great but no rocks for it to hide behind, and let me tell you, it's a master of hide and seek. i could count on my hands the amount of times i've seen it out in the open. thought i was doin a good job, it was gettin on with the other fish, not causin any trouble, that was until last week when i saw it swimmin around with a cardinal's tail hangin out its mouth, guess that's when reality hit me.
