Hey everyone,
Moving my house and I'm kinda in a bind - I've got a flowerhorn in my current tank and I'm upgrading to a bigger one, but I need to get it done ASAP. Any tips on how to make this happen in just one day without stressing my fish out too much?
Thanks so much!
Moving to a new home: what to expect
Re: Moving to a new home: what to expect
You're getting a bigger tank or fish for your flowerhorn. If it's a bigger tank, consider setting it up at the new place before the move, if possible. I've had instances where I could access the new place a few days prior, allowing me to clean and prepare it. If that's the case, set up the new tank and transfer the fish and filter over. However, if that's not feasible, you might have to do it on the day of the move or the day after, which can be quite challenging.
That being said, Exalt, if you could provide more details about your situation, I'd be happy to offer more specific advice on how to minimize stress for your flowerhorn during the transition.

So to clarify, do you already have the bigger tank set up and cycled at your new place? And how long is the trip from the old house to the new one?Exalt wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 6:08 am Hey everyone,

If everything's ready to go at the new place, just transfer the fish straight into the bigger tank. Move the filter and filter media over too, and bring some of the old tank decor to help the new tank get established with the right bacteria.

Put the flowerhorn in a big bucket with about half to two-thirds of its tank water. Grab a couple more buckets of water from the tank if you can and use these to partially fill the new tank when you're at the new place.Exalt wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 6:08 am Hey everyone,

Remove the filter, clean the media in a bucket of tank water, and put it in a separate bucket of clean aquarium water. Give the filter case and motor a good rinse under tap water and put it in the car.
Clean the gravel, get all the water out of the tank, and remove the gravel. Take the tank outside, rinse it out carefully so you don't damage it, then put it in the car on a towel or blanket.
Wash the cover glass, put them on the tank where they normally go, and secure them with some sticky tape.
Pack up the stand, fish, gravel, and water, and head to the new place. Set everything up using the old water and top it up with new, dechlorinated water from the new house. Get the fish settled in the tank with the old water before adding the new water. Set up the old tank in a different spot, away from where the new tank will go.
Once you get the new tank, set it up with new water and let it run for a week. Then, you can transfer the fish and filter into the new tank.
