I've had a pretty interesting observation with my otos - they're absolutely crazy about cucumber, but for some reason, they just don't seem to care for zucchini or green beans. I've tried those three with my small tank otos and that's been the result.
Fast forward to my big tank, and I'm seeing the same thing - the otos are all over the cucumber, completely ignoring the zucchini. Has anyone else noticed this kind of preference in their otos?
On a related note, I've also been observing my Green Fire tetra in the new tank, and they're huge fans of cucumber too - they're always picking at it throughout the day. My lone Green Fire tetra in the small tank doesn't seem to be as interested, and the Ember tetra barely even acknowledge its presence. I have to say, I'm really loving the Green Fire tetra - they're so active, fearless, and just a blast to watch.
Comparing cucumber and zucchini for otocinclus
Re: Comparing cucumber and zucchini for otocinclus
I've noticed that zucchini tends to be a bit tougher, fibrous even, compared to cucumber. That could be a factor. Cucumber also has a stronger scent, I think. Not sure how much of a difference that makes to the fish, but it's worth considering. Either way, it's pretty interesting. I'll have to try it out when I get my own otos and see what they prefer.
