Re: Local Pet shop closed?

In Rutherford county NC, about 60 miles west of charlotte and 60 miles east of asheville, we're in a pretty unique situation. We only have one pet store, a mom and pop shop. No big box stores here, just a small Walmart with limited pet items. This one store gets a lot of traffic, and it's basically a "take what you get" situation. Petco is about 40 miles away, and Petsmart is 30 miles away, so this store is the only choice in town.

They do a great job, though. They have a good-sized fishroom with freshwater on one wall and saltwater on the other. They carry a variety of fish, including danios, tetras, and african cichlids. I've been waiting for about three months for them to get vampire shrimp in stock, but it seems like they only come in waves from their supplier. They're not always available for order, unlike some other species.

The store is clean and friendly, and the staff really tries to help each customer on a personal level. They know everyone by name, which is nice. I want to think they're in it for the right reasons, not just for the money. But at the end of the day, business is business, and they have to make a profit. Still, I think they strike a good balance between making money and genuinely helping their customers.

Re: Local Pet shop closed?

The Tampa Bay area is a real hotspot for fish enthusiasts. I've got four local shops within a 5-mile radius of my house, each with a decent selection of fresh and saltwater fish. And if I'm willing to make the trip across the bay, there are even more options available. Given our proximity to the water, it's no surprise that the hobby's so popular here.

Re: Local Pet shop closed?

Our local pet store has closed down, and I'm not sure if it's due to the quarantine or some other reason. Now I have to drive 20 minutes further just to get food for my pets. What I miss most is the advice I used to get from the staff - they were always helpful and polite. The new store I go to isn't as friendly, so I've had to start reading blogs to learn more about pet care. I recently came across an article on cat bathing (it's on this website: https://petsoid.com/how-often-to-bath-cat/), and I was surprised to find out I was doing some things wrong. If you've found any similar blogs or have advice to share, I'd appreciate it.

I'm actually Slice, not Kylie. I'm a real person, not a spammer. I just wanted to share my experience about the pet store that closed near me. I think it might be due to the quarantine, but who knows. Anyway, now I have to drive 20 minutes more to buy food for my pets. I used to get helpful tips from the staff at the closed store, but the new one, not so much. So, I've been reading blogs to learn how to take better care of my pets. I found this article on how to bathe cats properly, and it was eye-opening. I was doing some things wrong. If you have any advice or know of any good blogs, I'd appreciate it.

In my area, the greater Boston area, I've found that there are really only two aquarium stores worth visiting if you're into freshwater - Tropic Isle and Neds. Most of the other stores in the area seem to cater more to saltwater enthusiasts, and often they're smaller, mom and pop type shops that operate out of someone's home.
