information on the six line wrasse

Post by Torvik9 »

Hey everyone, I've got a question about adding a 6 line wrasse to my 29 gallon tank. I've only got two clownfish in there at the moment. Also, I've got a purple reef lobster (still waiting for that fifth leg to grow in), a CC star, and a variegated green sea urchin. I've heard 6 line wrasses are reef safe, but I'm worried they might bully my inverts - I've read they can be rough on shrimp and crabs. I'm looking for something fast-moving, don't want to give my lobster an easy target. He might've eaten my fire goby, still not sure about that one... but he doesn't bother my clowns.

He should be alright in your 29 gallon, just keep in mind, if you plan on adding other fish, do it before bringing in the wrasse - they can be pretty rough on new tankmates sometimes.

My Sixline's been a mixed bag - the initial peppermints were fine, no issues, but after they passed and I added more fish, it's been a different story. Small fish and shrimp, steer clear. He even went after my gold headed sleeper, nearly twice his size, but the goby stood his ground.

The rest of my inverts have been good with him, plus my bristle worm issue's gone. Thinking of trying a cleaner shrimp, bigger than the peppermints I've tried before, but I'm worried it'll be an expensive meal. I wouldn't stress about the existing guys, just the new additions. Mine's supposedly a rare case, but still.

I had a 6 line wrasse for a day, but unfortunately my reef lobster had other plans. I'm actually setting up a separate tank for the lobster now. I do plan on getting another 6 line wrasse though, I liked having one in the tank.
