Can you adjust their position so they're more visible to me

I wouldn't bother trying to move them, it'll just stress them out. Leave them be, they're doing fine. My shrimp has already changed burrowing spots four times, it's happy just the way it is.

The goby's gone, haven't seen him for 2 weeks now. I'm thinking of either adding another or trying something different.

Sorry to hear that but keep your hopes up. Small fish like gobies can go "missing" for a bit, then reappear out of nowhere. Check your overflow box and sump, they might've jumped in there, also take a close look around the tank.

Yeah I'm sure of it now, he's gone for good. Found his remains and the other fish had a go at him. I'm starting to think I'm just not cut out for keeping gobies, only firtideflow seems to do alright.

Ever notice how they're eating at the store before you bring them home? Are their bellies full, or are they sunken? Maybe your other fish just aren't welcoming to newcomers.

No, it was there for four weeks and looked fine, not slim. My fish aren't picky about newcomers, no issues there. I did notice a big hole at the front, could fit a goby in it. At the shop, he wasn't very active, thought that's normal for gobies. Hope he's not dead, but if he is, I'm done with gobies in my tank.

That's awesome news. So, whose remains did you actually see then?

The goby's chillin on the rock right next to his new spot at the front of the tank 
