A new aquarium tank

Post by angler2 »

hello, just got a new juwel rio 240 litre tank and i'm thinking of stocking it with malawi cichlids, i've had a 190 litre tank for ages with a community setup, barbs, silver dollars, platties, the usual, but with this new tank i want to keep it simple and just have the one species, so how many cichlids would you say is the max i could fit in, i've got a few rocks, some plastic plants and sand in the tank

what's the filtration setup you're using on the rio 240, just wondering if it's the standard juwel equipment or if you've upgraded

Key point here, filtration is crucial. You can slightly overstock with Mbuna, but your filtration will be the deciding factor. Overfiltration means you'll still need to do regular maintenance - 1.5 to 2 times the norm - to keep your Mbuna tank healthy and thriving.
