Fresh ideas for stocking

Post by dakora »

Sorted the demasoni, delivered them myself, nice tank the bloke had, proper set up. Now it's just the peacocks in the 240, time for some new additions. Got the cash, so I'm thinking of adding all the fish at once, get the tank set up proper. Thinking of this setup - 5 ps elongatus chalousi, 5 afra hara, 8 yellow labs and the 5 peacocks I already have. That's 23 fish in 240 litres, might be a bit much, but the filter's doing alright. Just won another one, so I'll be running two fluval 305s when it arrives. That's 2000 lph, so the tank'll have a turnover of 8 times an hour, probably more like 6 with fluval filters. Should be enough, right?

Yeah, should be alright, I think. I've had a similar experience in the past, about 70 cichlids in a 60 US gallon, ranging from juveniles to fully grown adults. I was running two hob's and an internal wet/dry filter, and they all turned out to be healthy, beautiful fish. The only thing I had to do was change 5-10 gallons of water a day. As long as you stick with the numbers you've got, and keep up with the maintenance, I reckon you should be good.

yeah that's a lot of water changes, 5-10 gallons a day seems like a lot of work to me. i decided to get fry instead, gonna use the small tank for them till they grow out a bit. got 7 ps elongatus chalousi, 8 afra hara and 8 yellow lab fry, so we'll see how that goes. think they should be alright with the peacocks, they seem pretty placid to me so far, especially considering the smallest of the new ones is only 2cm.

The peacocks seem pretty laid back from what I've seen, so as long as the tank's not overcrowded, it should all work out. Yeah, that daily water change was a chore, but I had non-sterile hybrids, didn't want them getting passed on to other hobbyists.

yeah best not too. i know this isn't the right forum for this but i just had to share. i saw this woman on gumtree giving away platy and swordtail fry because she didn't want hybrids. cant believe fluxx bought em, he must've known they'd mate. i mean, did she really think she had pure swordtails in the first place? anyway, back on topic. when the fry grow out, do you reckon the peacocks will be alright with them? thanks mate
