is fin rot still present?
is fin rot still present?
Things are taking a turn for the worse - his fins are curling up and breaking off at the ends now. Daily water changes and adjusting salt levels haven't made a difference. I just treated the tank with Maracyn and Ich X, following the instructions from that video I found - check out the 5:25 mark for the specific steps I took.

I'm curious about your treatment approach - what's the daily salt dosage you're using, and what percentage of water are you changing daily?
Re: is fin rot still present?
Cory's betta seems to have a similar issue, and so does yours - that muscle bulge is a dead giveaway.
My betta went through a similar finrot ordeal, and I'm sharing what worked for me in the hopes it helps. I did a full tank reset - 100% water change, cleaned everything, and acclimated him back in. The next day, I bumped up the tank temp to 28 C and kept it there for 2 weeks, doing regular water changes every day or so. The result? His fins started growing back. Worth a shot, right? Give it a try and see if it helps your betta recover.

Re: is fin rot still present?
I added around 4 full tablespoons of salt for my 10-gallon tank and did a 50% water change, then added two spoons of salt back in. I did this for a bit over 2 weeks. All I ended up doing was killing my plants.

I'm wondering, should I hold off cleaning the tank since I've just dosed it with meds, or is it better to clean it now and risk disrupting the treatment?lumino wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 12:27 am Things are taking a turn for the worse - his fins are curling up and breaking off at the ends now. I'd say just clean the tank now, it's not like the meds are doing anything.lumino wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 12:27 am Things are taking a turn for the worse - his fins are curling up and breaking off at the ends now. Re: is fin rot still present?
I've cleaned the whole tank and I'm slowly cranking up the heat but my heater is being super uncooperative. It's like, it went down a degree instead of up. I keep it at 78-79, I bump it up a notch and the next day it's 77. This is my fourth heater and they all act weird - barely change the temp when I adjust it. And don't even get me started on how it freaks out if I move it around in the tank. I've even had an Eheim and it messed up. This is just really frustrating, I don't know what's going on with these heaters.lumino wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 12:27 am Things are taking a turn for the worse - his fins are curling up and breaking off at the ends now. Update:
No major improvements, but no decline either. Did a deep clean on the tank and giving the salt treatment another shot. Still some fungus-like stuff on the tip of his dorsal fin, but other than that, he's his usual self. Here's a clip of him trying out the new freeze-dried shrimp.
