fins of my betta are damaged

I'm aware betta are typically solitary, but in my experience, this plakat's been an exception. Despite being a plakat, known for their aggression due to speed, he's never shown any aggression towards his tankmates.

I'd say it's likely fin rot, possibly triggered by that recent fin injury. Daily water changes of 75%+ for a week should do the trick.

Are there any sharp objects in the tank, like rocks, plants, or driftwood, that could've caused the injury? What kind of filter are you using?

I have some spider wood that might be causing the issue - it's pretty sharp. The filter's an AQUQ-Tech 5-14, not a sponge filter, and it's a bit strong. Maybe the gravel's also a culprit?

I'm thinking of adding a sponge to the filter intake ASAP - I've seen them on Zorchzon.com and they're pretty affordable. I'm not too worried about the gravel, though - most bettas seem to do just fine with it. But, is it just me, or is the water looking a bit cloudy?

Here's the one I use, it's pretty cheap.
It's not actually meant for this purpose, but it gets the job done.
You can even find them at some big chain stores, just give them a call to check before heading out...
If it does slip, a zip tie works too - just keep the end short and tucked away so it doesn't bother the fish.
