Good point about the pH levels for some of these plants, like Riccia - they tend to thrive in lower pH conditions, which might not be ideal for African cichlids.
Overall, I think you've done a great job with this list.
From my experience, Java fern, Java moss, and Anubias seem to be the most resilient ones. I've got a few Java ferns and a small patch of Java moss that my cichlids haven't completely destroyed yet - although they do like to pick at them. I've only got four fish in a 125g tank, so maybe that's why they've been spared so far.
Aquatic plants for a cichlid environment
Re: Aquatic plants for a cichlid environment
So, should I remove the Riccia or just make a note about the pH level needing to be lower for it to do well? Thanks again for your reply!
Re: Aquatic plants for a cichlid environment
I've gotta disagree with some of the plants on this list. Nomaphila stricta, java moss, gkento4t bacopa, and riccia fluitans just won't make it in a cichlid tank. Swords and crypts are also a gamble, they don't do well in higher pH and hard water, so good luck with those. By the way, java moss is actually Taxiphyllum barbieri, just a heads up.
