I've had a pair of black & white clowns in my 24-gallon nano for about a year now - one's significantly larger than the other, so I'm pretty sure I've got a female and a male. I'm thinking of adding a flame angel or a dwarf bi-color angel, but I've been warned that my clowns might get pretty territorial and potentially harm the angel.
I'd love to hear your thoughts - will my clowns really be that aggressive towards the new addition?
A discussion about angels and clowns
Re: A discussion about angels and clowns
I've had similar experiences with my black and whites, they didn't bother my other fish at all, didn't seem aggressive unless it was another clown. I think you'll be ok with a flame angel, but I'd steer clear of the bi-color, they get too big for a 24g, borderline dwarf. A year's a good age for a tank, it's established, so that's a plus. There's a smaller dwarf angel that might fit, I'll have to dig up the name, I've gone blank on it.
Re: A discussion about angels and clowns
I don't think the clowns would be an issue, but honestly, a 24 gallon tank is too small for either a bi-color or a flame angel. A pygmy or cherub angel might work out, they're a better fit for a tank that size.
Re: A discussion about angels and clowns
Just to be safe though, I think you should give your B/W clowns to me, no seriously, I'm just looking out for the potential angel you wanna add, they can be pretty territorial.
Re: A discussion about angels and clowns
Thanks for reminding me, the cherub angel is the one. And zeno9, I think you're out of luck with getting my B/W clowns, I'm quite attached to them.
Re: A discussion about angels and clowns
I was really hesitant about buying live fish online, but I ended up ordering my B&W clowns from flourwaterfish.com since they were the only ones who had them in stock. The fish arrived via Fedex at my office, and I was impressed with how well they were packaged. I even showed them off to my coworkers before taking them home at lunch. Thankfully, they were healthy as can be - no issues whatsoever. I'd definitely consider ordering from them again.
Re: A discussion about angels and clowns
I had Black and White Clowns with a Bi-Colour angel for a while, they got along just fine. But the angel was a real nuisance, constantly pestering my Anthias and Goby, they'd hardly ever come out of their caves. I ended up swapping it for a Coflake Beauty, which has been a great choice, it's really peaceful and doesn't bother the other fish at all.
