Never seen this before in my 3 years of obsessing over acans. Just got this one a couple days ago, treated it with CoralRX like I always do, and it was munching on Mysis the first night. Now I've got a problem - it's got this weird white cloudy film covering half of it.
Should I try to salvage the healthy part by fragging it off? Is the cloudy part a lost cause? What's this stuff, anyway? And is it safe to leave it in my tank or is it gonna harm my other corals?

You think that white stuff on the left side of the frag might be cynao? I'm pretty sure that's what it looks like, anyway. Can you try to remove it with a turkey baster or something similar?
Re: Ailing acan: seeking advice on recovery
I'm pretty sure it's not cynao, darktide - it's more like a bacterial infection from die-off. This stuff can spread and some folks would recommend cutting off the affected part and doing an iodine dip at this point.

I agree with felinxo. That type of infection can spread rapidly, often in a brown jelly-like manner. I've seen it before, and it's best to take action quickly. Remove the infected part to prevent further damage, and consider an iodine dip to prevent the infection from spreading to other corals.

looks like it was damaged or got stung, then an infection set in. I've had a similar situation with an acan, it got damaged by a chalice and the undigested parts got infected, dying off about two weeks later. I'd recommend dipping and fragging the healthy part to prevent further infection.
